BISLAND & BLY

Bisland And Bly Poster.jpg

Bisland & Bly is a musical-in-process about Nellie Bly & Elizabeth Bisland's race against Phileas Fogg's fictional record -- and each other -- to travel around the world in under eighty days.

With original music influenced by 19th century folk, popular music, opera and tin pan alley, as well as folk and Americana sounds of today, the piece will aim to explore a remote rivalry between two remarkable and remarkably different women endeavoring upon a world-famous news stunt in 1889, when women were confined to writing about and inhabiting the domestic sphere.

Bisland and Bly's first act was part of the Springworks Festival in Stratford in October 2017. In May 2018, a staged reading of the first full draft was made possible through the award of the Boston University spark grant. In Summer 2019, Bisland and Bly sold out all four of its staged readings at the New York Musical Festival.
